THE REAL QUESTION

Three fire safety questions that keep you awake

If any of these are sitting at the back of your mind, your FRA isn't doing its job.

"Are we genuinely compliant - or just hoping for the best?"

An out-of-date assessment. Controls that look fine on paper but don't work in practice. Most businesses only find the gaps when an inspector finds them first.

"What happens if there's an unannounced inspection tomorrow?"

Can you show an inspector your emergency procedures? Do staff know evacuation routes? Are your detection and warning systems tested and documented?

"Is our assessment tailored to our operation - or a generic template?"

Timber yards aren't warehouses. Manufacturing hot work isn't retail. Generic templates miss the risks that actually exist on your site - the ones that get businesses prosecuted.

WHAT YOU GET

Every Opus FRA includes the following.

No upsells, no surprise add-ons. One fixed price, one consistent deliverable.

Site-specific assessment

Written for your premises, not a template. Hazards, controls and arrangements assessed against the way your business actually operates.

Documentation built for inspection

Aligned to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Written so the report answers the questions an inspector would actually ask.

Prioritised action plan

The real risks first, ranked by exposure. Not a wish list - a sequenced plan of work you can actually run.

Practical recommendations

Solutions you can act on, not abstract advice. Proportionate to the risk - we won't recommend expensive disruptive work just to look thorough.

Ongoing support

Your consultant stays available after the report lands. Questions, follow-ups, implementation guidance - included.

Fixed-price quote up front

One number agreed before any work starts. No day-rate creep, no surprise add-ons, no scope arguments later.

WHY OPUS EXISTS

Why we built Opus Safety

John founded Opus after a career on the regulatory side of UK workplace safety. He kept seeing the same three failures.

Templates dressed up as bespoke assessments. One-off contractors who disappeared the moment a question came up. Reports that looked thorough on the desk but fell apart the second an inspector asked something specific.

Opus Safety was built to fix that. We start with how your business actually runs - the production hours, the shifts, the awkward bits no template anticipates - and the assessment reflects that. One fixed price agreed up front. Same consultant six months later, not a rotating helpline. Documentation that holds up because it was built to hold up - not built to look like it does.

Common questions answered

Do I need a new fire risk assessment every year?

The law requires regular review. Best practice is annually, or whenever there's a significant change - building work, new machinery, an incident or a change in how the premises are used.

What happens if you find something expensive to fix?

We work with you to find proportionate solutions. It's not always about big costs - our recommendations are practical and prioritised by actual risk, not worst-case scenarios.

Can you help with staff fire training too?

Yes. We evaluate your current training provision and help you address any gaps. We offer interactive e-learning modules and can coordinate fire warden training alongside your assessment.

How is this different from a tick-box assessment?

We assess your actual operation, not a generic template. Our consultants have enforcement backgrounds - they know the difference between compliance that looks good on paper and measures that actually protect your business.

What if we've had an incident or enforcement notice?

Contact us immediately. We understand the urgency when enforcement bodies are involved and can help you respond appropriately and get your compliance back on track.

We already have someone in-house - do we still need you?

If your in-house person leaves, you still need competent fire safety cover. Many businesses find a consultancy is more cost-effective than replacing that role, and you get specialist expertise across sectors.
